Palangjai Clinic

A mental health clinic in Chiang Mai providing compassionate, personalised care through an integrated approach to psychotherapy and medication management—helping you regain emotional balance, deepen self-understanding, and live a more stable life.

About Us

Dr. Somkiat founded Palangjai Clinic with the vision of creating a safe and supportive space for mental health care—one that values genuine listening and personalized treatment for each individual.

We believe that effective mental health care combines medication management with psychotherapy to promote emotional balance, self-understanding, resilience, and lasting recovery. This integrated approach can be especially beneficial for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress-related difficulties.

Dr. Somkiat has completed training in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST), an approach that helps individuals develop greater self-awareness, deepen their understanding of themselves, and strengthen their relationships with others. Through this process, we support people in finding balance, navigating difficult times, and moving forward with greater stability and confidence.

Because we believe

“When the mind is cared for,
life can move forward
with strength and resilience.”

9 Key Signs of Depression You Should Not Ignore

Feeling persistently low, unmotivated, or unlike yourself?

It can be difficult to tell whether these feelings are part of a temporary emotional struggle or something more serious, such as depression. Many people experience these changes without fully understanding what is happening.

At Palangjai Clinic Chiang Mai, we aim to help you recognise the key signs of depression based on medical criteria (DSM-5), so you can better understand yourself or someone close to you.

9 Signs of Depression (Based on DSM-5)

  1. Depressed Mood: A persistent feeling of sadness, emptiness, or low mood for most of the day.
  2. Loss of Interest or Pleasure (Anhedonia): Reduced interest or enjoyment in activities that once brought happiness.
  3. Appetite Changes: Noticeable weight loss or gain due to decreased or increased appetite.
  4. Sleep Disturbances: Difficulty sleeping, frequent waking, or sleeping significantly more than usual.
  5. Psychomotor Changes: Slowed movements or speech, or feeling unusually restless.
  6. Fatigue: Persistent low energy or exhaustion affecting daily life.
  7. Feelings of Guilt or Worthlessness: Excessive self-blame or feeling like a burden.
  8. Decreased Concentration: Difficulty focusing, slowed thinking, or trouble making decisions.
  9. Thoughts of Death: Recurrent thoughts about death, self-harm, or not wanting to live.

If you are experiencing several of these symptoms for more than two weeks, it may be a sign of depression.

A proper diagnosis requires a professional assessment by a psychiatrist to determine the most appropriate care.

Treatment and Recovery

Depression is a recognised medical condition related to brain chemistry, and recovery often requires more than simply “staying strong.” Professional support can play an important role:

  • Medication (Pharmacotherapy): Antidepressants can help restore the balance of brain chemicals. (Always consult your psychiatrist before adjusting or stopping medication.)
  • Psychotherapy: Approaches such as Satir Therapy can support self-understanding and long-term emotional resilience.
  • Support System: Understanding and non-judgmental support from family or loved ones can make a meaningful difference.

Please be kind to yourself. Depression is not a sign of weakness, but a condition that deserves proper care. If you are feeling overwhelmed, you do not have to go through this alone. Seeking help is a courageous first step.

Palangjai Clinic Chiang Mai is here to support you—offering a safe, non-judgmental space to listen and walk alongside you on your journey to better mental health.
